These little canvases came about because....hmm I don't really know. Sometimes I just sit down and play with colors and see what happens and these got me to thinking of how some childhood memories are really vibrant and bright and other ones sometimes are just bits and pieces or a color or object reminds us of our childhood.
In order of appearance here is what I thought of as I looked at these mini memories!
The first made me think of picking green beans and raiding grandmas garden! Fresh crisp green beans in the heat of summer. Sneaking into the garden like little bunnies and even pulling a carrot or two and eating them unwashed with that little bit of dirt dusting the carrot!
The second piece in made me think of long summer days and the love I had of exploring in nature out by our family get away at Emma Lake, Saskatchewan. Those getaways felt full of magic and imagination. I remember my sister and I making bow and arrows out of twigs and branches and some string and going through the trees and bush pretending we were playing Robin Hood.
The third Made me think of the warmth of the sun laying on my back in the grass and shutting my eyes with my face in the sun and seeing the bright colors that were on the inside of my eyelids. I still do that sometimes!
The fourth one in the last one, made me think of pink lemonade and cardboard boxes. Two childhood staples in many a home. Lemonade stands made out of cardboard, Cardboard boxes that became castles, houses in an enchanted wood, or forts for hiding away and reading books with a flashlight!
In any case memories can be a wonderful thing. Some memories of mine are not so wonderful but I keep them as reminders of what the little person I was journeyed through and yet she was still able to find beauty and make memories that are worth remembering! What are some of your favorite childhood memories?
These little gems are 3"x3" oil pastel on canvas.
